Ibernation.

Ibernation / Your Holidays Whole Country
May 2009

In a period of false breasts, face-lifts, the media hype of the ‘celebrity’ and the fake phenomena, there is also a shift to the ‘authentic’ or a false authentic. We are in a spin, where to turn, what to choose, what is right! This in turn highlights what is ‘real’, what is authentic. Are we in search of the ‘perfect’ or lost in non-reality?

Somehow are we trying to recreate the perfection, but, what could happen if we had the chance to create a whole country? A mainstream country which tried to please everyone, a whole new reality!

This project is a satirical exposition of the identity and promotion of an invented new country. The concept behind this project is based on two pillars. On one hand, a way of of tourism which do not care about visiting the country at all, a tourist who does not have any interest in the culture, origins, language or costumes of his holiday destination, a person who just cares about staying inside an “all inclusive” enclosure, enjoying the sun and a parcel of beach. And on the other hand, governments who doe not care either about their own culture or land. All this, results in places where everything is for sale to the prolific business of tourism.

For this exposition, a new country has been created, an island in the South Atlantic Ocean with an incredible amount of hours of sun a day. A place where everything is made for the tourist and everything is for sale. A culture which is able to change its own tradition for money.

This project is not a representation of any real case, and it does not want to offend anyone with the conceptual and graphic relation between the British and Spanish culture, but it is been definitely an inspiration due to the fact that it is what is closer to me.
